1.What sort of appointments do we offer?

We offer appointments to assess your hearing or alternatively help you manage any difficulties you may be having be with hearing or use of hearing aids that you have purchased from us or elsewhere. Most appointments will involve discussions about the nature of your hearing difficulties; the information gained, together the results from any assessments made, will enable us to consider the various options or solutions that are available to you. 2. I already have hearing aids bought elsewhere, can you help?

If you use hearing aids that you bought elsewhere we may be able provide a hearing assessment, fitting and fine-tuning sessions and support for an agreed fee. This will however be at our discretion and will require an agreed service level agreement based on current warranties, age of aids, suitability of the aids for your current loss etc.(Back to FAQs)

4. How can I be referred?

If you are experiencing difficulty with your hearing you can contact us directly, or through your GP.

5. What do hearing tests involve?

There are various types of hearing tests; the most common is Pure Tone Audiometry. This involves measuring your responses to tones played through headphones or earphones. This assessment determines the quietest level of sound that you can hear at different pitches or frequencies; this enables us to know whether or not you require hearing aids. This type of hearing assessment also provides detailed information about the type of loss that you may have. The consultation will take approximately 1 hour. (Back to FAQs)


6. Are there any hearing assessment fees?

We usually offer hearing evaluations free of charge. However we reserve the right to charge for this service in specific situations. (Back to FAQs)


7. What sorts of hearing aids are available?


We are independent dispensers; we are not tied to any particular manufacturer. We will advise you on the best make and model for your needs.
Depending on the type and degree of hearing loss you have, we can supply you with one or two hearing aids (See 'Types of Hearing Aid' on side menu).

8. Which hearing aids would be suitable for me?

Following completion of your hearing assessment a report will be provided for you; this will describe your hearing difficulties and suggest a range of suitable hearing aids. Quotations for each type of aid will be included in the report. This report also recommends which of the range of suitable aids would be best for you.

9. What happens if I decide to buy hearing aids from you?


Once you make a decision to purchase the hearing aid(s) that we have recommended a Hearing Instrument(s) Supply Form has to be completed. This document details the contract between Walker Audiology and yourself. This has to be signed by both parties (you receive a copy); the hearing aids will then be ordered. As soon as the hearing aids are available, you will be contacted to make arrangements for the initial fitting appointment. (Back to FAQs)

10. What is the hearing aid fitting follow-up process?

If you decide to buy hearing aids from us we always offer you a free follow-up session, during the first 6 weeks after the initial fitting appointment, to see how you are progressing and to offer any assistance that may be required. At this point your hearing aids can be fine-tuned if required.
We also offer 2 other free consultations within 9 months of the initial fitting appointment should they be required. Fine-tuning sessions required after the first 9 months will be chargeable on a session by session basis.

11. How much does it cost to purchase hearing aids?

The cost varies depending upon the technological specification of the hearing aids. We will always give you a summary, in writing, of the hearing aid make, model and cost that we are recommending for you. (Back to FAQs)

12. Is there a hearing aid trial and refund period?

Hearing aids are offered on a 28 day money back trial period from the purchase date. After the 28 day period, should you still be unhappy with the Hearing Aids a full money back guarantee is assured providing that the aid is returned in ‘as new’ condition. However we always expect to be able to resolve any problems that you may be having with your hearing aids before the trial period expires.

13. What is the warranty on new hearing aids?


Most new hearing aids have a warranty for 2 years; you will be advised if the aids you have purchased have a different warranty period. In accordance with the Health Professionals Council (hpc) Code of Practice, we undertake to provide all possible assistance to clients so that they gain the full benefit of any manufacturer's guarantee. Returning the hearing aids to the manufacturer for repair under the warranty will be done by Walker Audiology. (Back to FAQs)

14. What about minor maintenance of my hearing aids?

Within the guarantee period, Walker Audiology (at their discretion) will normally attempt to deal with minor issues such as re-tubing earmoulds, removing minor wax blockages, wax trap replacement and microphone filter replacement, for nominal fee including a charge for any parts required. 15. Can I purchase an extended warranty?

In many cases we can offer extended warranties, typically up to 5 years. Many of these warranties offer excellent value for money and can save on repair bills during the warranty period. Please ask for more details. (Back to FAQs)

16. What happens if my hearing aid stops working outside the warranty period?

Outside of the warranty period, we offer a full repair service should your hearing aids develop any faults. Out of warranty repairs or servicing are charged for.

17. I have health care insurance, can I claim the cost of my hearing assessment and hearing aids from my insurers?

If you have health care insurance, it is worth contacting your insurer to see whether diagnostic testing is covered. Commonly, diagnostic tests are covered by private medical insurance, whereas supply of hearing aids is not. If you buy hearing aids from us we can provide you with an invoice that separately details the cost of your hearing assessment (as part of the hearing aid purchase price) so that you can claim this back.(Back to FAQs)

18. If I decide to buy hearing aids from you do I need to pay a deposit?

19. When do I pay for the Hearing Aids?

The balance of all payments must be made at the time of initial hearing aid fitting / collection. (Back to FAQs)

20. How can I pay for my hearing aids?

Payment can be made either by cash or cheque. (Back to FAQs)

21. Do you offer extended credit facilities?

Under normal circumstances no, however, such facilities can be offered at the discretion of the company. This can be fully discussed either prior to or during your initial consultation. We want you to hear well and will do all we can to enable you to pay for the Hearing Aids in a way that is comfortable for you.

22. What happens if I lose or accidentally break my hearing aids?

Manufacturers’ guarantees will NOT cover loss due to theft, fire etc. nor will it cover accidental physical damage. The customer is advised to ensure that their current house contents insurance covers such items or consider obtaining additional insurance to cover these risks. (Back to FAQs)

23. Following the initial assessment of my hearing when should it be re-tested?

You can refer yourself back at any time but we will contact you 18 months after your first hearing consultation to offer you a full reassessment of your hearing and re-adjustment of your hearing aids as required. (Back to FAQs)


24. Do you supply batteries and other hearing aid accessories?
